Boating and Fishing
Fannin County is rich with opportunities for water sports and fishing.
The crystal blue waters of Lake Blue
Ridge, with 100 miles of shoreline,
contain the headwaters of the pristine Toccoa River, which flows northward
into the Ocoee River in Tennessee. Fannin County is also criss-crossed
by creeks and streams, which, combined with the Toccoa River, offer the
best mountain trout fishing in Georgia. Boating, skiing, pontooning,
canoeing, rafting, tubing -- all are available for the enjoyment of all
in Fannin County and the Copper Basin.
Bring your own boat or rent a pontoon on Lake Blue Ridge for a day of
fun on the lake. Boat ramps are available in a number of locations, including
Lake Blue Ridge Marina, Lakewood Landing, Morganton Point and Blue Ridge
Recreation Area. For a slower, more relaxing day, tube the Toccoa River,
or canoe the Toccoa River Canoe
Trail, which utilizes 17.3 miles of river
from Deep Hole Recreation Area to Lake Blue Ridge. Float fishing on this
river trail or below Blue Ridge dam to McCaysville is also a popular
pastime.
Fish for walleye, small mouth bass, white bass, and bluegill on Lake
Blue Ridge. Fishing for both native and stocked trout is exceptional
in over 100 miles of trout fishing sreams, including the Jack's, Conasauga
and Toccoa Rivers, Rock, Noontootla and Cooper Creeks. Please consult
the Chamber Welcome Center for the Georgia Guide to Trout Fishing, for
details about season, creel limits and size restrictions.
