Seven Ways to Avoid the Crowds in Blue Ridge (Beyond Hiking)
Summer vacation looks a little different nowadays, but it should still be filled with fun and adventure.
Blue Ridge is the ultimate destination, and if you select your activities with forethought you can holiday here safely and responsibly–without sacrificing any enjoyment! Here are seven social distance friendly activities to jumpstart your vacation planning.
Zip Lining
With limited group numbers and the clean, outdoor air, flying through the trees is a great way to spread your wings in Blue Ridge. Tackle obstacles and zips on a self-paced adventure.
Where to go
Tubing
Nothing says summer like a float down the river. Take in the scenery, splash your feet, and relax while soaking up some vitamin D. You’ll find options with bottoms at select locations (great for younger kids), and floats as long as six miles. Ahhh…six miles of sunshine and smiles sounds perfect.

Rafting
If the idea of being on the water sounds divine…but you are ready to take it up a notch, then head for the white caps. You’ll love white water rafting the Ocoee. Try the upper section, the lower section…or for a true adventure, gear up for both sections on one long ride.

Watching a Movie
Tune into some old-school fun on your FM dial at the drive-in theatre. While the play area is closed, the theatre, restrooms and concession stand are open. They’ve even changed the way cars are parked in order to accommodate adequate social distancing guidelines. Open weekends with a double feature. Cash only.

Visiting an Orchard
Is there anything better than fresh, local fruit? Well, maybe ice cream or cobbler made from that fruit, right? Stop at the road-side store to grab what’s in season. While you’re at Mercier Orchards, make your way to the tasting room to sample ciders grown, pressed, fermented and bottled in Blue Ridge.
Where to go
Horseback Riding
Riding is a treat for families, couples or small groups of friends. Explore more terrain, see new and unique views of nature, and make a new (four-legged) friend. Even in the hot weather, trail rides in Blue Ridge are generally in the shade, making it a fun summer adventure.
