Toccoa River Canoe Trail

The Toccoa River Canoe Trail is perfect for experienced paddlers who are looking for a few rapids, smooth waters, and some beautiful scenery along the way. It's a full day adventure or camp along the way at the Swinging Bridge on the Toccoa.

The trail is also popular with float fishermen looking for cold-water mountain trout. The put in is located at the Blue Ridge Ranger District's Deep Hole Recreation Area, a U.S. Forest Service campground of highway GA 60 south of Blue Ridge and north of Suches, GA.

Launch and parking costs $5 per vehicle. The canoe trail begins on the north bank of the river, flowing west and north toward Blue Ridge. The entire float from Deep Hole to Sandy Bottoms is 13.8 miles.

This canoe trail utilizes the Toccoa River from the launch at Deep Hole Recreation Area flowing west and north to its end at the Sandy Bottom Canoe Take Out. Enjoy viewings of forested public lands, pastoral private lands, laurel and rhododendron thickets, and their associated wildlife, coupled with great fishing and some rapids make this a perfect canoe trip.

Trailhead Location: Deep Hole Recreation Area

The launch is at Deep Hole Recreation Area, a USFS campground located in the east/southeast portion of the district just off a paved highway, GA Hwy. 60 south of Blue Ridge, GA and north of Suches, GA. Launch and parking costs $5 per vehicle.

Access: Deep Hole Recreation Area - From McDonald’s restaurant at the intersection of Georgia Hwy. 515 and Georgia Hwy. 5 north in Blue Ridge, follow Georgia Hwy. 515 east approximately 4.5 miles to traffic light and junction with GA Hwy. 60 (Lakewood Junction). Turn right on GA Hwy. 60 and go 0.5 miles to old U.S. 76.Turn left on GA Hwy. 60. Go 1.5 miles to Morganton. Turn right on GA Hwy. 60, continue on GA Hwy. 60 14.7 miles to Deep Hole Recreation Area entrance on the right (dirt/gravel all weather road.

Access: From McDonald’s restaurant at the intersection on Georgia Hwy. 515 and Georgia Hwy. 5 north in Blue Ridge, follow Georgia Hwy. 515 east approx. 0.8 miles to Windy Ridge Rd. Turn right at Windy Ridge Rd., go 0.2 miles to dead end with Old U.S. 76. Turn left, go 0.2 miles to Aska Road on right. Turn right, go south 8.5 miles on Aska Rd. Turn left, go across Shallowford Bridge, and turn right on Shallowford Bridge Rd. Go 1.3 miles to Old Dial Rd. Turn right on Old Dial Rd., go 0.6 miles to the Sandy Bottom Canoe Take Out on the right.
